How many working days does that year actually have? Working Days Calculator

How it works?

The planner takes the chosen country's public holidays and weekends and finds the places for your leave days that give the most time off. Leave is counted in calendar days, and a public holiday inside your leave does not use a leave day. Leave starts and ends on a working day: starting on a weekend would spend a day that was free anyway.

Three plans

  • Most days off: leave next to public holidays and weekends. An ordinary weekend you would have anyway does not count as won.
  • One long break: all days in one stretch of time off, as long as possible.
  • Spread over the year: like the first, with at least four weeks between breaks.

Each plan is the best possible for its goal, not an estimate: the planner goes through every option.

How to use

  1. Choose the country and year.
  2. Enter your leave days and your employer's conditions (for example at least one 14-day part).
  3. Grey out the days in the calendar when you cannot take leave.
  4. The plans change at once. Pick one to see it in the calendar, copy it or print it.

Frequently asked questions

What does "extra days" mean?

Extra days are the total days off minus the vacation days used. For example in 2026 in Estonia: take leave on 22, 25 and 26 June (3 days). With Victory Day, Midsummer Day and two weekends you are off from 20 to 28 June, which is 9 days in a row, so you gain 6 days. Public holidays do not use up leave days. Weekends inside a leave period do, because in Estonia leave is counted in calendar days.

Do public holidays use up vacation days?

No. Public holidays are automatically free days that do not deduct from your vacation balance. This is why placing vacation days around public holidays is especially efficient.

What are employer conditions and how do they work?

Your employer may require that at least one vacation period meets a minimum length - for example, in Estonia one part of the leave must be at least 14 calendar days unless employer and employee agree otherwise. Add a rule by entering the minimum period length. The optimizer places such a period (the leave itself counts, not the free days around it) and warns when a scheme cannot meet the rule. The sum of all rules must not exceed your total vacation days.

How do I mark when I can take leave?

At first the rest of the year is allowed. Tap a day or a month name in the calendar to grey it out: no leave is planned there. With a mouse you can drag over several days. "Clear" greys out every day, so you can mark only the days when you can take leave.

What is the "Spread over the year" plan for?

It splits your leave into several parts with at least four weeks between them. It suits you if you want shorter breaks during the year besides the summer holiday.
