How it works?

Stripe charges a blended fee consisting of a percentage of the transaction amount plus a small fixed fee per successful charge.

Fee = Charge × Percentage ÷ 100 + Fixed fee
Net payout = Charge − Fee
To receive exact net: Charge = (Net + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Percentage ÷ 100)

Rates shown are pre-filled based on your active currency, but Stripe pricing depends on your country, business type, and negotiated plan. Always verify your exact rates in the Stripe Dashboard under Settings → Billing.

Note: additional fees may apply for international cards (+1.5%), currency conversion (+1.5%), instant payouts (+0.5–1.5%), and other Stripe products.

Frequently asked questions

What are Stripe's standard fees?
Stripe's integrated pricing varies by country. In the US it is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful card charge. In Europe (EEA) it is 1.5% + €0.25 for European cards and 2.5% + €0.25 for non-European cards. UK pricing is 1.5% + 20p. Always check stripe.com/pricing for the current rates in your country.
How do I pass Stripe fees to the customer?
Use the 'You Want → Charge Customer' tab. Enter the amount you want to keep after fees, and the calculator works out the gross charge using the formula: Gross = (Net + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Percentage ÷ 100). Be aware that in some regions, surcharging customers for card fees may be restricted — check local regulations.
Why is the effective rate higher than the percentage fee?
The fixed fee per transaction (e.g. $0.30) has a bigger impact on small transactions. For a $5 charge with 2.9% + $0.30 fees, the effective rate is 8.9%. For a $500 charge, the same rates produce an effective rate of just 2.96%. This is why Stripe is relatively more expensive for low-value transactions.
Does Stripe charge fees on refunds?
Stripe refunds the processing fee for refunds in some countries (including the US), but in many regions (especially Europe) the fee is not returned on a full refund and is never returned on partial refunds. Check Stripe's refunds documentation for your country's policy.
Are there cheaper alternatives to Stripe?
For high-volume businesses, Stripe offers custom pricing. Alternatives include PayPal (2.99% + fixed fee), Square (2.6% + $0.10 in-person), and Adyen (interchange++ pricing). The cheapest option depends on your transaction volume, average order value, and whether you need in-person payments. Stripe's main advantage is developer experience and global reach.
